Day 2565 (Sunday) 16th June 2024
This is Paloma beach in Saint-Jean Cap-Ferrat
and this was the Crème festival last night, which only kept Huw awake until 1am!
There was another cruise ship in the bay today and the weather was lovely.
Our new geraniums are coming along nicely, they are such a lovely colour.
We went up to the top road to have lunch in our favourite roadside café, the Cabana and naturally I took the same old photos of the wonderful view.
Quite a few tourist buses parked near the café to let the passengers take photos but didn’t stop, they were probably on their way to Eze Village. The music they were playing in the café was great, all the best of the 70s, 80s and 90s, we were in our element. When we finished we went down to get some petrol and saw that there were lots of yachts in the bay.
Our next stop was Saint-Jean Cap-Ferrat to see the classic motorbikes.
I spotted these flowers and my App tells me they are Oakleaf Hydrangea.

The music they were playing was also old stuff in English – what a treat!
After looking at all the motorbikes we had a beer in the Seaside Café to wait for the parade which was due to start at 2.30. it was very pleasant and summer is almost upon us.
At about 2.20 people started getting on bikes and starting them up and it sounded really good – I’m sure it’s not exactly green but it was good.
They set off to parade the town.
When all the excitement was over we made our way back to Kisbee 2 and saw this poster saying that the tram from Nice used to go to Saint-Jean Cap-Ferrat - why on earth did they take it away?
Huw used his translation App and this is what it said…
Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat
It was in 1864 that the train arrived in Nice and in 1868 that it was extended to Beaulieu.
It will never reach Saint-Jean because the station requested at the entrance to the peninsula will not be retained.
Before 1900, a stagecoach service provided the connection from Nice to Saint-Jean.
From 1907, following the creation of the current avenue Denis Séméria, the tramway finally linked Nice to Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat via Mont-Boron and Villefranche.
The tram then took the “new” road, passing in particular in front of the Villa Les Cèdres, then in front of the Town Hall to finish its journey on the Place des Cars (current Place Clemenceau).
In 1931, a coach service, considered faster and more comfortable, definitively replaced the use of the tram in the town.
We headed back to the port to take yet more photos…
A new statue has appeared as is called La Meduse des Voyageurs, which translates to
The Travellers’ Jellyfish.
