Day 2032 (Saturday) 31 st December 2022. Happy new year’s eve! Huw found these beautiful photos online Promenade des Anglais The Old Port of Nice Eze  Nice  The old town of Nice Nice  It was quite warm this morning and we went for a walk along the beach and there were some mad people swimming in the sea. We went to Les Palmiers for a coffee and Huw was able to take his jacket off and bask in the glorious sunshine. The rules to be aware of when celebrating New Year’s Eve in France Celebrating New Year's Eve in France can be lots of fun, but laws regarding public safety and order still apply amid the celebrations. Here are the rules you should be aware of. While December 31 st is a night that many look forward to – from fun parties to ring in the new year or fireworks displays – the same rules and regulations that apply on any other day continue to apply on New Year’s eve – or  Saint-Sylvestre  in French. Here are the specific rules you should be aware of before commencing your N

Day 2031 (Friday) 30 th December 2022. It was quite sunny this morning and Huw had to go to the big apartment to check out a lady.  We have two stories today and I was really shocked by the first one…read on…  Why do the French set fire to cars on New Year’s Eve? Burning cars is something of a tradition in France on New Year's Eve, albeit a much-hated one by authorities and car owners. That’s because of a longstanding French ‘tradition’ that sees youths in certain areas torching scores of cars. How many? The car-burning seems to have begun in Strasbourg in the late 1990s and reached a peak in 2013, when 1,193 cars were set alight across the country on New Year’s Eve.   Day 2030 (Thursday) 29 th December 2022. Sadly it wasn’t so warm today, not bad but not good. Huw bought a sofa cover online and put it on last night and it looks pretty good but it makes the living room look very red.   French Expression of the Day: À la one again Half of it is in English, but this 'franglish' expression is not logical for native speakers of English. Because if you finished your task in a rush, you may have done it like this. What does it mean? À la one again – roughly pronounced ah la wun eh-gehn –  means to do something carelessly, quickly, or nonsensically. It translates precisely to “in the manner of the one again.” This slang expression first entered the French vocabulary in the 1990s, and as you may have noticed it combines French and English words, in a way that does not make much sense to your average English-speaker.  The phr

Day 2029 (Wednesday) 28 th December 2022. It was another glorious day today but Huw had to go to Nice in search of a new toilet seat – ours fell off on Christmas Eve. While he did that I put on a summer dress and sat in the sun for a few hours – it’s remarkably warm and sunny – 35 degrees in the direct sunshine. These people were enjoying a day out on a boat When Huw got home he went to work on the toilet and miraculously it didn’t take long and it only cost 4€.  I did some work on the New Year’s Day lunch and I now only need two more menu options and I think we’re ready. It’s been a pain in the bum but I’m sure it’ll be worth it and to make it even better the forecast is great – read on… France set for ‘exceptionally warm’ New Year’s weekend Forecasters are predicting an especially warm New Year's weekend in France, with some parts of the country seeing record high temperatures.
