Day 1175 (Thursday) 27th August 2020
Happy birthday to me!
I can’t believe that it’s 26 years ago that I celebrated my 30th birthday in Villefranche sur mer and Eze Village. When did we get so bloody old? Huw was very disappointed that neither of my presents had been delivered on time – we’ve had hardly any mail for the last three weeks so we weren’t surprised. He made up for it with some cute surprises from the magical shop Tiger and he bought me some more Marseilles soap from the money his lovely mum had sent me and wrapped the money around the soap.

He then cooked me a real sausage sandwich for brunch and it was delicious. We took Kisbee to Eze Bord de Mer and parked up and caught the bus up to Eze Village. There were quite a few people on the bus but it wasn’t too uncomfortable.
We had planned to walk up to the exotic gardens and have a cold beer admiring the view but when we entered the old town we saw that it was compulsory to wear a mask in the old town. It was incredibly hot and the thought of wearing a mask all afternoon was unbearable so we decided to give the gardens a miss and just do the walk down to the sea.
We stopped at the viewpoint and Huw gave me a lovely surprise when he produced two miniature bottles of cold Prosecco and plastic champagne flutes.

There were a few people doing the walk but we all kept our distance; it really is a beautiful walk and we can’t remember how many times we’ve done it but it must be at least 7 or 8 times and it’s just as wonderful every time but I think today was the hottest day we’ve done it so far.

It only took just over an hour to walk the 4kms down to sea level but it was quite tough and it was a relief to get to the bottom. We saw this sign at the bottom and assume that someone has added some stickers to these rules

Look at the second one from the left and the second one from the right… it looks like it says to can’t be drunk enough that you have to crawl and the other one says you can’t fart!

At the bottom we headed to the private beach and had a swim and thoroughly enjoyed an incredibly expensive pint of cold beer at 12€ each.

Well, it’s a once a year treat!

When we got back to Villefranche we went for a little walk to make the most of the last of the sun and had a beer in the carpark – I know that sounds odd that we go to the carpark but the view is lovely and reminds us of lockdown!

Sorry, no entertaining French stories or language quirks, I’ve been too busy having a happy birthday.
