Day 419 (Tuesday)
Eleven days to go before we go home!
Got up at 8.30 feeling quite tired and after a few coffees we packed up and headed to the shops. The big shopping centre was open so got our bits and pieces from Poundland – I really miss Poundland and shops like it, we have 2€ shops in France but they are nowhere near as good as the British ones. We got a naughty breakfast from Greg’s bakery, Huw had a sausage in a roll and I had a steak bake. We were a bit early for the train and it was delayed so there was some hanging around outside Stratford station, which isn’t the nicest place in London. The train journey was pretty painless and Pat and Amanda were at the station to pick us up. The drive from the station was lovely and it was nice to see the hundreds of bales of hay in the fields.

We went straight to New Buckenham where we met Nick, Amanda’s husband in a pub to have some lunch, which was lovely. New Buckenham is a lovely little village so after lunch we went for a walk and this is what we found.

Amanda drove us back to their lovely home called Dairy Cottage

where we were greeted very enthusiastically by their gorgeous dog Daisy.

As usual when we visit this lovely cottage the first thing we do is inspect their gorgeous garden and see the chickens.

This used to be our little olive tree and it is thriving here

And this used to be our jasmine tree, which is also flourishing.

We had a lovely afternoon sitting in the sunshine and was really mesmerised by all the bees and the small white butterflies playing in the lavender.

Amanda and Pat kindly gave us a lift to Attleborough where we caught yet another delayed train to Cambridge.

We saw some lovely scenery from the train and realise just how beautiful the English countryside is in this area.

I was very impressed to see acres and acres of solar panels too.

It was only a ten-minute walk from Cambridge station to our apartment for the night and a young man let us in and showed us where everything was and it was pretty big and well equipped. We were both knackered but we made ourselves walk down to the river to see the town centre and I’m glad we did because it was beautiful.

 And this tickled me

We had a beer in a plastic cup and sat on a bridge over the River Cam and watched the punting for a while.

 I love this photo

We walked inland from the river to admire the stunning architecture of the universities and churches.

We walked back to the river and enjoyed a beer in a pub on the riverbank and had a good laugh watching the stragglers trying to return their punts by 9pm; it was very entertaining.

By the time we got back to our room we had walked 10.7 kms!
