Day 1419 (Tuesday) 27 th April 2021. Shock horror, it was overcast this morning but at least we didn’t get the showers that were predicted. Huw kindly gave me a lift to the Prom because I had to go to the school before the Marriot to pick up some paperwork from Anna. Avenue Jean Medicin (the Oxford street of Nice) was deserted and all the shops were shut From there I caught the tram to the hotel. Gilles and I had a lovely chat in the conference room on the seventh floor for 45 minutes before going downstairs for a coffee. Gilles had invited one of his colleagues to join us and she was a delight. I didn’t catch her name but she is just 22-years-old and oozed confidence. She works in the Marriot three days a week and studies for her master’s in accountancy two days a week. Her English is impeccable and I was amazed to hear that she is Russian and has been in France since she was 5 and she is trilingual. Day 1418 (Monday) 26 th April 2021 It was nice and sunny this morning but it clouded over around lunchtime as the forecast predicted. Huw went up to the villa to check on everything and it was fine but there is still some work that needs doing later on. I had a Zoom lesson with Eduard but Olga didn’t join me because her daughter is still in Monaco and they are getting ready to fly to London tomorrow. So we still can’t go further than 10kms but the daughter can travel from Lyon to Monaco and then to London. They will be hiring a private jet so I don’t suppose they will be checked by anyone – it’s so infuriating, we just want to go to Geoffrey’s in Antibes to buy some bacon and sausages and Huw has run out of Marmite. The weather forecast promised a storm with high winds and rain this afternoon but so far we have only had a few spots of rain and it was fairly windy earlier.
