A Year in Villefranche sur Mer - Moving to France

  Day 1422 (Friday) 30 th April 2021.  The weather was much better today although it was still a bit cloudy but it’s warm again and no rain – hooray! Huw went off to do his long walk and I prepared my laptop and lessons for my Zoom class with Eduard and Olga who are in London at the moment at 9.30. By 9.50 I was fed up with waiting so I sent him a text, 20 minutes later he replied cancelling the lesson. I know I still get paid when he does this but I find it extremely rude to keep me waiting for nothing. I used the time to prepare next weeks’ lessons so it was wasted but still – it’s bloody rude. Our flowers are looking great and the bougainvillea is looking the best it has in ages and the lavender is starting to flower.   The anti-mosquito flower is in full bloom And the geraniums are quite magnificent Macron made an announcement yesterday and it looks like we will have a relatively normal life again soon.   Day 1421 (Thursday) 29 th April 2021.  It was wet and miserable again this morning so I had a lie with Badger because I had my class with Gilles on Tuesday instead of this morning. I had an online lesson with the group from Monaco’s football stadium, which was as great as ever and I’m very sad that we only have two more classes left – I’m going to miss them. It rained pretty much all afternoon and I really didn’t want to go out in it but I had to, I had an hour with Nathalie and an hour with her son Brett so I walked to the station using an umbrella and managed to stay pretty dry. As the train arrived I put my umbrella down and just as I was getting on the train I got drenched by the rain that fell from the roof of the train straight onto my head – it was horrible. My hour with Nathalie was great and we looked at vocabulary for the body because it’s important she knows all this for her job in the pharmacy.   Day 1420 (Wednesday) 28 th April 2021.  I have decided that I hate the month of April in France! It was overcast again this morning and I expect it to be warm and sunny every day. How can it be warmer in February than it is in April? I was sunbathing in February!  Huw gave me a lift to Saint Jean Cap Ferrat where I spent a pleasant 90 minutes with Christel and Brice. They told me a story about a woman on the beach in Villefranche recently who sitting on her own, there were very few people around and she was miles from another person. She wasn’t wearing a mask and the police approached her and fined her 135€. I really can’t see this, if she’d been close to other people yes but she was alone. She took this matter to court in Nice and the judge agreed with the police and she was fined. This seems very unfair especially when you see young people hanging around in the street not wearing masks and staying out after the 7pm curfew.
